Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa has raised a red flag over the ongoing radicalization of Muslim youth by radical clerics in Mombasa even after the death of Makaburi.
Addressing the press on Monday, Marwa warned that the police were zeroing in on radical preachers in Masjid Shuhadaa, as well as Bondeni and Mwembe Tayari Mosques.
Marwa said he has credible information that the youth sleep in mosques after evening prayers for radicalization exercises late in the night.
He said he is in the process of setting up a police station in Majengo where most youths are alleged to come from in order to counter the renewed radicalization of Muslims to revenge Makaburi’s death and join Al-Shabaab.
Sheikh Amir, alia Mahboob, is said to be behind the renewed radicalization in Mombasa after he replaced Makaburi as the leader of Masjid Shuhadaa Mosque.
Upon taking over, Mahboob vowed to revenge Makaburi’s death in a big way by killing more Christians.
This comes even as police are holding over 600 youth who were nabbed during the police swoops on Easter holidays in Mombasa.
